EMTs can find themselves in critical situations that require them to assist a Paramedic with advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). Although EMTs are not trained to provide advanced-level skills, there is much they can do to improve the quality of management, and thus the patient’s chance for survival by understanding the practices of advanced care by ALS providers.
ALS Assist for EMT’s is an informational course that will cover a variety of emergency situations. Focus will be on the roles of EMS members at various levels and focus on ways that each level can interact to provide the highest and most efficient care possible to a patient in crisis. This course is open and encouraged to all EMT’s as at any time you may encounter a call that needs to be upgraded to an ALS assist. Successful completion of this course is now required for any EMT whose goal is to work full time on an ALS/911 ambulance. It is strongly encouraged for EMT’s currently working on an ALS ambulance full time to complete this course if you have not previously done so, or if you would like the review. Participation will give you the knowledge and tools to be able to further assist the patient in an ALS scenario.
