The expanded scope paramedic course prepares the paramedic to assess and manage patients at the Tier 1 level of care. Participants must be a 6-month paramedic before they will be allowed to operate at the Tier 1 level. Training includes advanced assessment techniques, expanded pharmacology, physiology and management of patients on mechanical ventilation, and physiolgy and management of patients with cardiac assist devices, chest tubes, and continuous bladder irrigation. Participants will learn to use the Sapphire IV pump, the Hamilton H900 heater for applying heated high-flow nasal cannula therapy, and either the Zoll Z vent or Hamilton T1 vent.
